Question: I feel like I am losing the enthusiasm, taste, and driving force for service in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, and am more inclined to paying attention to news instead of hearing about Kṛṣṇa. Is this due to not observing vows in the month of Kārtika? How do I adjust this state?
Answer by Romapada Swami:
Everything depends on the individual — what is the best factor that will help each of us remain enthusiastic?
Association is one of the first places to look. Introspect: Can my sādhu-saṅga be increased and materialistic association be decreased? That is the first place to look.
Another is a commitment to take reasonable wholesome steps in a good direction. In other words, rather than being absorbed in what you are not doing right, think of beneficial things that you can do – and do them with some attention, with regularity. Try to find success in those progressive areas of your life, rather than meditating on what you are not doing right.
The message here is to put the horse before the cart.
The horse is bhajana-kriyā. The cart is anartha-nivṛtti.
With the maximum devotion that you already have, give extra attention to some of the things that you are already doing nicely. Doing this will help cleanse the heart from this worldly attraction problem.
These are two practical suggestions, in response to your question.
