Digest 00336: Understanding Krishna’s Will in Our Lives

Written by Romapada Swami

Question:When we are doing our best to be surrendered, putting our focus on sadhana and devotee relationships, it seems like the next steps in life become apparent and feel right on a deep level.  It is a matter of patience for indications and also a level of purification which comes over time of sadhana bhakti practice.  Also, of course, consulting with superiors on different choices.

Is this kind of the process of understanding Krsna’s Will in our lives? There is a kind of natural unfoldment of events that feels right – is this Krsna?  It’s almost like, if we are doing this, one choice feels very energized and almost glaringly obvious, whereas the others fall off over time.

Answer by Romapada Swami:

The ‘from the heart’ process is very much as you have described. It is imperative, wihin the same breath, to indicate the Guru, Sadhu and Sastra method of verification of the ‘from the heart’ inspirations that come our way.  This is much stronger a litmus test than ‘consulting with superiors on different choices’, although this also must be done.

Here is one sastric evidence in understanding Krishna’s will in life’s complex circumstances, coming from one of our principal Sadhus or Mahajana – Bhismadeva. See SB 1.9.16. “O King, no one can know the plan of the Lord [Sri Krsna]. Even though great philosophers inquire exhaustively, they are bewildered.” So be cautious when feeling super-confident that you may have ascertained Krsna’s will.

Consider the plentitude of religious ideology within the world today. How much of it is ascending (speculative, distorted, man-made, etc), and how much of it is truly descending?

In spiritual matters our realizations must be supported by scripture and guided by the spiritual master. This will ensure our protection. Otherwise, something that may ‘feel right’ could be maya’s ploy to draw us into another cul-de-sac of illusion.
