Process of Initiation

Digest 00443: Absolving of Karma during Initiation

Written by Romapada Swami

Question: I’m a neophyte in the path of Bhakti. There are a few doubts, which are troubling me. Could you clarify them please? I was searching for the scriptural references to these statements. Prabhupada has said in a few places but I will be grateful for the scriptural references.

1.The reactions of the actions of the disciples is borne by the guru..If the disciple is not delivered, guru has to take birth again and again to liberate the disciple.

  2. Without getting formal initiation one doesn’t get Krsna prema, even if he may get a lot of potency.

  3. Guru is the one who has control over 6 things as described in the sloka ‘bacho vegam manasa, krodha vegam…’ , teaches what Krsna has said without any speculation and follows the same in his personal life. The sishya appreciates this and when starts serving him, the guru guides the sishya by interacting about the personal life of sishya.  i.e a guru not only has the requisite qualifications but also touches the heart of sishya by giving personal guidance

Please correct me if I’m wrong and please cite the references if its not difficult.
