Question: For long as I can remember, I have been a devotee of Lord Vishnu. On numerous occasions, I have seen him in my dreams talking to me. I am not a ritualistic individual any more, I don’t sit in my home temple because I have surpassed that stage. Is that a bad thing? I have my conversation with god every single day my heart is full of love for him. I asked him to show me a sign, the next week I spontaneously met Dalai Lama. Why does my soul burn to be with the supreme? I feel as I should be with him, but I am stuck on this earth to yearn for him. My heart cries eyes swell with tears. I have a beautiful life -amazing husband, kids, in laws, parents, extreme financial stability, yet I only wish to meet my maker and never part from him unless it’s a universal necessity. Is this a normal feeling? Please help me get some clarity on my feelings.
Answer by Romapada Swami: Krsna instructs us in Bhagavad Gita of how it is the natural propensity of the soul to serve and how the only way we can be blissful and happy is when we have revived our forgotten relationship with Him through devotional service. We can strengthen our love for Krsna through service. Krishna mentions in BG 11.54 and 11.55 that He could be known and understood only through undivided devotional service.
It is mentioned in the Vedic texts as well as Bhagavad-gita and Puranas that chanting the Hare Krsna Maha Mantra is specifically prescribed for the present age we live in – Kali Yuga.
As you have mentioned in your question that you have a very good life, by the mercy of Krsna. So, I would encourage you to use your time to progress further in your devotion to Krsna. The best way to do this is to regularly chant a fixed number of the Hare Krsna Maha Mantra rounds on Japa beads. This will help you to connect to Krsna immediately as the Holy name of the Lord and the Lord are not different. As you practice chanting everyday (with attention!) the feelings that you are experiencing will become more mature and refined. You will not feel the separation from the Lord rather you will feel the lord is always with you.
