Question: Since Jaya-Vijaya were to take three births as demons to regain their spiritual positions as Doorkeeper of Lord Narayana, what was the situation during the time when they were in the body of demons? Was the service of doorkeeping done by someone else, or they were still present there?

The only direct answer to this question that I am aware of comes from Visvanatha Cakravati Thakur: They actually did not fall from Vaikuntha. Their expansions appeared as demons in the world to fulfill the curse. After the three births, those expansions merged into their original forms in the spiritual world.
