Question: Why in material life people are lazy and saying not enough time for regular Bhakti?
Answer by Romapada Swami:
Srimad Bhagavatam 1.1.10 mentions the characteristics of Kali Yuga, the present age we are living in. In this iron Age of Kali men almost always have but short lives. They are quarrelsome, lazy, misguided, unlucky and, above all, always disturbed.
Actually, human life is meant for understanding spiritual values, but at present very few are interested. People have forgotten life’s real purpose, which is to develop pure love for Krishna. People are devoid of true spiritual knowledge and therefore they engage their valuable time by over endeavoring for material things, which in reality can never give any satisfaction to the soul.
In BG 2.44, we find Krsna confirming:
“In the minds of those who are too attached to sense enjoyment and material opulence, and who are bewildered by such things, the resolute determination for devotional service to the Supreme Lord does not take place”.
But at the same time, by the mercy of Lord Caitanya, this age of Kali Yuga has one great boon for all the conditioned souls: for spiritual advancement, people need only follow a very simple process. In this age, the most potent way to re-spiritualize our lives is to chant the names of God, especially the Maha-mantra: Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. Chanting cleanses the heart of all the dust accumulated for millions of lifetimes.
