Solving all Problems

Digest 00674: If I do not have Implicit and Full Faith in the Bhakti Process, Should I Act According to a Lesser Standard of Faith that I Do Carry?

Written by Romapada Swami

Question: Some people who are overwhelmed by negative emotions may not be able to accept a transcendent solution out of a state of heartbreak, and may put faith in psychology or other healing methods instead. In this case, is it better to resolve the situation by transcendental ways such as listening to transcendent pastimes and chanting the Holy Names? Or is adopting some auxiliary methods necessary?

Answer by Romapada Swami:

We all act according to faith.

For those who do not have implicit and full faith in the bhakti process, should they or should they not act according to a lesser standard of faith that they do carry?

I would suggest something a little different than those two options.

For example, some of the devotees in China have marriage problems.

Currently, there is an effort to provide some training and education for married devotees to learn how to better manage their marital problems than simply chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa, taking prasādam, and worshiping their deities.

My recommendation is to seek training from a Kṛṣṇa conscious person, from a Kṛṣṇa conscious perspective.

A similar approach is applicable to those that have negative emotions and have difficulties in overcoming them and struggling with them in a variety of areas of daily life.

For some devotees, it is sufficient to simply chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, read Bhagavad-gītā, take Kṛṣṇa prasādam, and worship deities. For others who do not have that capacity, or simply to seek assistance in areas where one may feel vulnerable, it is better to take assistance from a Kṛṣṇa conscious person who understands how to assist them, and thus overcome those negative emotions in both a practical and in a Kṛṣṇa conscious manner.
