Question: I am a businessman. I came in contact with Bhagavad-gītā one year ago. Since then, I have invested lots of time and energy in studying Bhagavad-gītā and Kṛṣṇa consciousness. I let go many responsibilities and obligations at work. I am struggling with the question whether I should continue putting myself into my job, or should I continue studying Kṛṣṇa consciousness. How to find the balance?
Answer by Romapada Swami:
Your spiritual life is a primary responsibility. It is not that taking care of this responsibility is irresponsibility.
What is the goal of your life?
Asking yourself the above-stated question is responsibility. Getting an answer takes responsibility. Fulfilling it also takes responsibility. How to balance between the two depends on your values of life and where you are in your spiritual trajectory.
To make proper choices is not merely finding “a balance”. First, assess where you are in your spiritual trajectory; then, manage your time appropriately from where you are presently situated, aiming in steps towards the higher purpose(s) of your life.
