Digest 00745: What is the role of our endeavor while material modes are inducing us to act?

Question: Can you kindly explain how the modes of material nature induce us to act. What is the role of our endeavors, who controls them?
I have read other posts regarding this topic. My understanding is that we always have free will to desire, and that desire can be spiritual or material. If material, we can also desire different material things. If we desire things which are in modes of passion and ignorance like excessive laziness/sleeping and sense gratification, because of our desire to associate with lower modes, these modes create impression in our mind and thus via our future thoughts induce us to associate more with them in future. But the free will is always there to choose if to follow our wrong desires or not but if we associate too much with lower modes, exercising that choice becomes more difficult and we feel more forced to do wrong things. Please correct if I am wrong. If we finally fix on a desire to do something and because of past karma/permission of super soul it lies within our quota of doable things, material nature arranges for that to happen and gives us results also. What is the role of endeavor here, who is responsible for more/less endeavor we are able to do.
